Piedmont man arrested with over 200 fentanyl pills and other drug paraphernalia

PIEDMONT, SD (KOTA) – On Thursday at 7 a.m., the Meade County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a person unconscious in a car near 3rd Street in Piedmont. When police arrived on scene, they found the person unconscious with a needle in his hand.

After what the Meade County Sheriff’s Office called a “comprehensive investigation,” 35-year-old Tyler Gallant was arrested and charged with:

  • Distribution of a controlled drug or substance (Class 4 felony)
  • Possession of a controlled drug or substance (Class 5 felony)
  • Possession of a revoked or suspended driver’s license (Class 1 misdemeanor)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class 2 misdemeanor)

During the search of Gallant, his home and his car, over 20 grams of fentanyl pills (about 200 pills), about 2 grams of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia were discovered.

Gallant was taken into custody and transported to the Meade County Jail.

“Illegal drugs, particularly fentanyl and methamphetamine, continue to plague our communities. The destruction these drugs cause is immeasurable. We will continue to do everything we can to remove this poison from the streets of Meade County and hold those who bring it here accountable,” said Meade County Sheriff Pat West.

The case has been turned over to the Meade County District Attorney. No further information is available at this time. All charges are allegations and the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
