Gravestones at Roselawn Cemetery damaged by accident

MORGAN CO., Alabama (WAFF) – Numerous headstones at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur were damaged after a man suffered a medical emergency.

Family members of the man said he was visiting a loved one at the cemetery when he suffered a medical emergency while driving, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and speed through the cemetery.

When emergency services arrived at the cemetery, he was unresponsive. He was immediately taken to hospital, where he is still recovering.

Rhonda Copper, whose mother is buried at Roselawn Cemetery, says she rushed to the cemetery when she heard the news.

“I just thought, when I saw the pictures, I started to panic,” she said. “It makes you sad when you know that something has happened to the gravestone that you’re putting flowers on. It’s just awful.”
