EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 32-year-old man was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after allegedly going for a “joy ride” in a Porsche, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Andrei Borovenskii, 32, was arrested Thursday, July 4, and booked into the El Paso County Jail on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
This Thursday, at approximately 11 a.m., an El Paso County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on a black Porsche Cayenne Turbo S in the 7000 block of Doniphan.
According to the sheriff’s office, no license plates were visible on the car.
The deputy noticed that the driver was “extremely nervous” and made contradictory statements while denying ownership of the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
The officer conducted an investigation and found the contact details of the registered vehicle owner.
The registered owner lives in California and had hired a transportation company to transport his vehicle from Austin to California, according to the sheriff’s office.
The investigation also revealed that the suspect was employed as a driver by the transportation company and unloaded the vehicle from a trailer without the owner’s permission in order to take it for a “joy ride,” the sheriff’s office said.
The Porsche was impounded for safekeeping and the registered owner said he would arrange for his vehicle to be picked up, the sheriff’s office said.
After an “extensive search” for the transport trailer, the trailer and towing vehicle were also found and also seized and impounded for safekeeping, the sheriff’s office said.
