Biker dies in truck accident in Lagos

The Lagos State Transport Authority said on Monday that a female motorcyclist was killed by a container truck in the Sifax area near the Iganmu Bridge in the interior of the state.

As it became known, the truck driver lost control of his vehicle while driving and when driving down the bridge the truck collided with a motorcyclist.

Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, made the announcement in a statement via the agency’s official X-handle.

The statement reads, in part: “Earlier today, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other rescue workers recovered the body of a female biker who was trapped under a loaded container truck in Lagos.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver, who was driving too fast, lost control and crashed the truck into the motorcyclist. The driver fled the scene when he realized the severity of the accident.”

Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transport, Sola Giwa, confirmed that the incident occurred at about 6:15 am, noting that “immediately after the incident, LASMA personnel called other emergency services, including the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU), for a rescue operation.”

Giwa said the Lagos State Emergency Services had removed the body of the deceased while evacuating the container truck to pave the way for free vehicular movement on the Iganmu Bridge.

He further added that police officers had been deployed to ensure security during the rescue operation.

The governor’s adviser expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and “urged truck drivers to respect speed limits both inside and outside the state.”

He also advised commercial and private motorcycle riders to comply with traffic rules and regulations in accordance with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reforms Law, 2018.
