4 dead in mass shooting at pool birthday party in the USA, suspect commits suicide

Washington:

Four people were killed and three others injured in a shooting at a home in the U.S. state of Kentucky on Saturday, police said. According to Florence police, four people were pronounced dead at the scene, while three others were taken to a nearby hospital and are currently in critical but stable condition.

Officers arrived at the home around 3 a.m. Saturday and could still hear gunshots as they approached the house, Police Chief Jeff Mallery said at a news conference. People were at a birthday party by the pool at the time.

The suspect, an adult male, fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived, and a chase ensued. The suspect then drove off the road and fell into a ditch. Police found the suspect with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Xinhua news agency reported.

Partygoers recognized the suspect and gave his identity to police. Mallery said he had previously been convicted of a sex offense, although it apparently had nothing to do with the shooting.

Officials said initial investigations indicated the suspect acted alone and posed no threat to the public.
