Police say woman stabbed man seven times at family gathering in Bluffdale

BLUFF DALE — A 23-year-old woman was arrested after police say she stabbed a man multiple times at a family gathering in Bluffdale.

Izabel Happold was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Friday morning on suspicion of aggravated assault, obstruction of justice, intoxication and domestic violence in the presence of a child.

Bluffdale Police Officer Carl Hamer said the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. at the Rockpoint Apartments, 15300 S. Porter Rockwell Blvd.

Hamer said a family had gathered at an apartment to celebrate a birthday and Independence Day when a “pretty violent fight” fueled by alcohol broke out between two men.

On one occasion, Hamer said, Happold, the wife of one of the men, stabbed the other man multiple times. According to the affidavit, the victim suffered six stab wounds in the back and one stab wound in the neck.

According to police, seven children were in the apartment at the time of the stabbing.

The affidavit states that Happold initially told police that she stabbed the man to protect her husband. However, “she also admitted to stabbing the victim before he began beating her husband.”

Both men were treated at the hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Hamer said.

According to the police report, Happold hid the knife in a nearby dumpster, which she later showed to officers. Police also said they found “numerous open alcohol containers throughout the house” and that Happold was drinking alcohol when she spoke to officers.

A judge ordered Happold held without bail, court records show. Hamer said after the stabbing victim leaves the hospital, he will face aggravated assault charges in connection with the fight at the apartment.
