UPDATE: Fireworks accident outside Utica ends in death | 103.9 WLPO

A 25-year-old man died in an accident involving illegal fireworks early Friday morning.

The victim’s identity is being kept secret for now. Utica firefighters were called to a rural property northeast of the village because a victim had “a tube lodged in his chest from fireworks.” The 911 report stated the person was conscious but “awake.” La Salle County officials also arrived at the scene. The victim was taken by ambulance to OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa, where he later died from his injuries.

Diss says the incident is currently being investigated by his office, as well as the county coroner’s office and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
