Buffalo Sabres 2024/25 schedule breakdown: October

Yesterday, as the NHL opened its free agency period, each team announced their home opener and the full schedule would be released the following day (today). For the Buffalo Sabres, their home opener was October 10th against the Los Angeles Kings. At noon, the full 82-game schedule was released. Here are the details for the month of October.

The blue and gold will be in Prague to begin the regular season, where they will face the New Jersey Devils twice. After playing on the road, the Sabres will host the Kings. A few days later, the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers will travel to KeyBank Center.

Next week, Buffalo will be on the road for a three-game trip. After a home-and-away against Pittsburgh and Columbus, the Sabres will face Chicago before returning home. To finish the month, it will be a three-game homestand. The blue and gold will host Dallas, Detroit and the Panthers before turning the page on November.

Of the eight games they’ll play, four will be against teams from last season’s playoffs. Seeing the Panthers twice isn’t great news, but the good news is they won’t see the defending Cup champions until March, when Buffalo travels to Florida.

The month is playing out like a pattern for Buffalo. With two games against a non-playoff team, the next two games will be against playoff teams. The next three games will be against non-playoff teams, while two of the last three games at the end of the month will be against teams that were in the playoffs.

Depending on what happens between now and then, who knows how things will play out. Either way, it’s not an easy schedule. Excluding the two games against the Devils, Buffalo will have five home games in October, which will give fans a good look at the team to start the 2024/25 season.
