Rules for yellow cards and suspensions at the 2024 European Championship in the knockout phase

England suffered suspensions following a series of yellow cards in the first half of their round of 16 match against Slovakia at the 2024 European Championships.

Defender Marc Guehi will not play in the quarter-finals if England progress. Kobbie Mainoo and Jude Bellingham were also cautioned.

Referee Umut Meler was strict in the round of 16 match and a Slovakian player was shown the yellow card of the match in Gelsenkirchen due to England’s poor start.

Yellow card rules for the 2024 European Championship

After two yellow cards, a suspension is served for one match.

Yellow cards received in the group stage, round of 16 and quarter-finals will be deleted before the semi-finals.

For this reason, a ban for the final can only occur if a player is sent off in the semi-final.
