Bill Cobbs, star of “Bodyguard” and “Air Bud”, dies at the age of 90

Bill Cobbs — the 90s cinephile may know from films like The Bodyguardair bud, And That what you do! — has died. He was 90 years old. His brother Thomas G. Cobbs shared the news of his death on Facebook. “We are saddened to announce the passing of Bill Cobbs,” he wrote. “On Tuesday, June 25, Bill passed away peacefully at his home in California. Bill, a beloved partner, big brother, uncle, surrogate father, godfather and friend, recently celebrated his 90th birthday with joy surrounded by his loved ones. As a family, we take comfort in knowing that Bill has found peace and eternal rest with his Heavenly Father. We ask for your prayers and encouragement during this time.”

Cobbs was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1934. He began his career as a theater actor in Ohio and then worked with the Negro Ensemble Company in New York. His first film appearance was in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Cobbs can be seen in many of the most popular films of the 90s. He played Whitney Houston’s manager in The bodyguard, Grandpa Booker in The people under the stairs, and Air Buds Trainer in air bud. Cobbs played one of the evil guards in Night at the Museum. On television he had roles in projects as diverse as Rugrats, The West Wing, The Sopranos, And Star Trek: Enterprise.
