1 person arrested after shooting in Dorchester – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) – One person was arrested Tuesday after two young men fired dozens of shots at each other in the middle of a Boston street, sources said.

According to Boston police, shots were fired on Bowdoin Street in Dorchester around 6 p.m. Police said no one was hit by the shots.

According to police, one person was arrested after a foot chase.

The shooting occurred in an area between the Bowdoin Street Health Center and a grocery store. Sources said the area was busy at the time and said the two people who opened fire appeared to know each other.

Surveillance video obtained by 7NEWS shows people running for cover during the shooting. Some fled into the supermarket. One person pushed another person in a wheelchair away from the shots.

“We thought it was fireworks,” said one person in the area. “I thought it was fireworks exploding.”

“It’s impacting our community,” the same person said. “People don’t want to stay inside on nice days like this.”

While the police investigation was still ongoing, local resident Cynthia Paone shared her reaction.

“This is a community and we all work together and we’ve always done that since I was younger,” she said. “It’s sad when people now feel like they can’t help because they’re afraid for their lives.”

Police cordoned off the area Tuesday evening and evidence markers were placed all along Bowdoin Street.

By 9 p.m. the police had cleared the crime scene.
