One teenager dies, another sleeps heavily in drowning accident in Moffitts Mill – CNAW 2 with Colin Scroggins

A tragic incident is being investigated in Lee County after two men were rescued from floodwaters at Moffitts Mill today.

Officers with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at Moffitts Mill at 206 Lee Road and 240 Lee Road reporting two men in the water. Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says officers pulled them out and performed CPR until EAMC ETS, Salem Volunteer Fire Department and Smiths Station Fire and Rescue arrived.

Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton announced later that evening that one of the men, identified as 18-year-old Dainer Ramirez Lopez, was pronounced dead at 3:39 p.m. at Piedmont Columbus Regional. The second man remains in critical condition at the same hospital.
