  • Dozens of Tesla Cybertrucks were damaged in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, this week.
  • The Cybertrucks were spray-painted with a message attacking Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
  • Cybertrucks have become a symbol of anger for Elon Musk’s many critics.

Tesla Cybertrucks have become a real symbol. But probably not in the way Tesla CEO Elon Musk had hoped.

Nearly three dozen Cybertrucks were vandalized in Florida this week with derogatory messages aimed specifically at Musk.

A 35-second viral video showing the consequences of the series of vandalisms in a parking lot in Fort Lauderdale first caused a stir on Instagram on Friday.

The footage – shared on the Only in Broward account – shows a fleet of Cybertrucks with the phrase “Fuck Elon” spray-painted on their metallic exteriors. The man who filmed the video said Tesla recently leased the parking lot, and the first Cybertrucks arrived three days ago.

“Looks like someone doesn’t like Elon…” read the caption.

Local authorities told NBC Miami that 34 vehicles were damaged in the parking lot where Cybertrucks and other Tesla models were parked.

The person who called authorities said the vehicles were in good condition Thursday night but were damaged Friday morning, the outlet reported.

The vehicles were quickly cleaned or removed from the site.

Tesla representatives did not respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.

Tesla began delivering Cybertrucks to the general public in November 2023. Cybertrucks start at $60,990 for rear-wheel drive and rise to $79,990 for all-wheel drive. The Cyberbeast, which can reach 210 km/h and tow 5,000 kg, is estimated to cost $99,990.

While Tesla Cybertrucks have received a mixed response in the US, they have been well received elsewhere.

The Dubai Police General Command added a Cybertruck to its patrol vehicle fleet this month. Musk and the official Cybertruck account welcomed the decision to go with X.

“Very cool to see – thanks for the trust!” wrote the Cybertruck account.

Tesla has had to deal with a series of bad news stories in recent months. The automaker cut 10% of its global workforce in April and laid off more employees in the weeks that followed. And some traders say the company’s stock is overvalued. One short seller recently called Tesla stock one of the “biggest stock market bubbles” in history.
