Investigation into David Schultz case completed – Storm Lake Radio

The Sac County District Attorney’s Office has announced the completion of the investigation into the disappearance and subsequent death of David Schultz, who was reported missing under suspicious circumstances in November 2023.

According to a press release, David Schultz’s semi-trailer and trailer were found abandoned north of the intersection of N14 and D15 in northeast Sac County on November 21, 2023. On April 24, 2024, Schultz’s body was discovered just over a half-mile from his abandoned truck.

The medical examiner determined that Schultz’s cause of death was “hypothermia secondary to acute drug (methamphetamine) intoxication” and that his death was “accidental.” Evidence collected at the scene and the state of decomposition of the body indicated that Schultz had been lying in the field for months.

After the discovery of Schultz’s body, police conducted an extensive investigation but found no evidence of foul play. The investigation revealed that Schultz had been on the road for nearly 30 hours straight with little to no rest. The combination of sleep deprivation and methamphetamine is believed to have caused a medical emergency that caused Schultz to abandon his truck and eventually succumb to the elements in the field where he was later found.
