1 dead in crash that closed one lane of Highway 63 in Boone County

COLUMBIA, Missouri (KMIZ)

One person was killed in a traffic accident on Thursday that forced the closure of one lane of Highway 63 in southern Boone County.

The accident occurred on Highway 63 near Mt. Pleasant Road and the Eagle Knoll Golf Course. Multiple Missouri State Highway Patrol and Ashland Police cruisers responded to the scene, along with Southern Boone firefighters.

A police spokesman later said one person was killed in the crash. Authorities did not release the identity of the deceased until next of kin were notified. The closed lane of Highway 63 was reopened around 2 p.m.

MSHP Sgt. Paul Meyers said at the scene that a gray SUV crossed the highway and turned into the path of a white SUV. A man in the gray SUV died, Meyers said. Two people were taken to the hospital.
