Air quality warning issued for Cincinnati area as temperatures and humidity rise

SO THAT’S SOMETHING WE’LL BE WATCHING CLOSELY. BUT EXPECT THE HEAT AND THE HUMIDITY TO INCREASE OVER THE WEEKEND AND INTO NEXT WEEK. RIGHT NOW THE SUN IS SHINING OVER CINCINNATI. WE HAVE A NICE EAST WIND TODAY, SO THE SKIES WILL STAY CLEAR. AND IT’S COMFORTABLE RIGHT NOW AT 73 DEGREES. WE HAVE NO HEAT INDEX. AND THAT WILL BE THE CASE ALL DAY THANKS TO SOME LOW HUMIDITY READINGS. AGAIN, WE HAVE THAT HIGH PRESSURE AREA DIRECTLY TO THE NORTH. SO WE’LL STAY IN THAT EAST WIND TODAY. THIS IS ALSO A DRIER HIGH PRESSURE AREA. So it’s brought a nice change in humidity, YESTERDAY IT WAS A LITTLE FLOATY. AND TODAY IT’S JUST NOT THE CASE. YOU CAN SEE WIDESPREAD DEW POINTS IN THE 40S AND LOW 50S. AND THAT REALLY INDICATES NICE DRY AIR. THE 60S WE HAD EARLIER THIS WEEK ARE STAYING IN THE SOUTH. BUT THEY’LL EVENTUALLY COME BACK TO OUR AREA NEXT WEEK. SO TODAY IT’S ACTUALLY SEASONAL. WE HAVE LOTS OF SUNSHINE, LOW HUMIDITY WITH HIGHS OF ABOUT 84 AND THEN TEMPERATURES WILL DOWN TO ABOUT 62 TONIGHT. SKIES WILL REMAIN CLEAR SO TOMORROW WILL BE COMFORTABLE. I THINK WE’RE GOING TO START FATHER’S DAY REALLY NICE. HUMIDITY WILL BE LOW IN THE MORNING. BUT IT WILL GET HOT FAST. TEMPERATURES WILL RISE TO NEARLY 90 DEGREES TOMORROW AND EXTENSIVE SUNNY SKIES WOULDN’T BE THE LEAST SURPRISING. I SAW SOME 90 DEGREES IN SOME COMMUNITIES TOMORROW, BUT THE HUMIDITY, YOU KNOW, EVEN IF IT GOES UP A LITTLE IN THE EVENING, I THINK IT’S GOING TO STAY AT A REASONABLE LEVEL. SO IT’S NOT GOING TO BE THAT OVERWHELMING SWEATY FEELING THAT WE USUALLY FEEL IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER. BUT IT’S GOING TO STAY HOT FOR THE NEXT 6 TO 10 DAYS. THE CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER IS FORECASTING ABOVE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES FOR THAT PERIOD. IN FACT, GREATER CINCINNATI IS RIGHT IN THE CENTER OF THE HOTTEST OR AT LEAST WARMER THAN AVERAGE TEMPERATURES DURING THIS PERIOD. THAT’S WHAT’S GOING TO BE THE STORY FOR US FOR A LONG TIME: SUSTAINED HEAT, SUSTAINED HUMIDITY. IT’S REALLY GOING TO FEEL LIKE SUMMER. UM, AND WE’RE TRYING SOME DAYS IN THE 30S NEXT WEEK. BUT, YOU KNOW, YOU COULD OPEN YOUR WEATHER APP. IT COULD HAVE SEVERAL DAYS IN A ROW OF 98, 99, EVEN 100 DEGREES. I’VE SEEN THAT ON A LOT OF WEATHER APPS THIS WEEK. I WANTED TO NOTE THE FORECASTING CHALLENGES BECAUSE OF THE HEAT. YOU KNOW, MODELS DON’T DO VERY WELL WITH LONG-TERM HEAT EVENTS. SO THAT’S SOMETHING THAT COMES INTO PLAY THIS WEEK. AND IT’S ACTUALLY REALLY HARD TO ACHIEVE THAT. 90 DEGREES HERE IN CINCINNATI. WE USUALLY ONLY HAVE THAT ABOUT 4 TO 5 TIMES A YEAR. UH, YOU KNOW, THERE’S A LOT OF FORECASTING ELEMENTS THAT COME INTO PLAY EVEN TO GET JUST ONE 90 DEGREES DAY. WE HAVE A LOT OF CLOUDS AND HUMIDITY AND EVEN CHANCES OF RAIN. ALL THREE OF THOSE THINGS CAN PLAY A ROLE, UM, IN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 89 AND 90 DEGREES. SO WE’RE DOING IT DAY BY DAY. WE’RE WATCHING THE MODELS. WE’RE REFINING THESE NUMBERS VERY SLOWLY. I KNOW YOU’VE SEEN THEY CHANGED SLIGHTLY OVER THE WEEK AND WE’LL CONTINUE TO DO THAT HERE THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THE FORECAST IS ACCURATE BECAUSE THE HEAT INDEX VALUES ARE GOING TO REALLY GO UP HERE FROM MONDAY TO FRIDAY. THIS WEEK THERE WILL BE WEATHER IMPACTED DAYS EVERY SINGLE DAY, SOME DAYS THE HEAT INDEX VALUES CAN BE AS HIGH AS 100. AND ON DAILY STORM CHANCES. ON FATHER’S DAY MORNING, DESPITE A SLIGHT INCREASE IN HUMIDITY, IT’S ACTUALLY GOING TO BE PRETTY COMFORTABLE FOR BREAKFAST AND BRUNCH. UH, AFTERNOON TEA IT’S A LITTLE HOT WITH TEMPERATURES CLOSE TO 90, AND THEN IT’S GOING TO COOL DOWN AS IT GOES TOWARDS DINNER. UH, TUESDAY, NOTE, ONLY 32 DEGREES. WE’RE EXPECTING MORE STORM CHANCES THAT DAY, SO I THINK THAT’S LIKELY TO LIMIT TEMPERATURES AT LEAST FOR NOW. AND THEN WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10TH, AND THE CELEBRATIONS THAT DAY MIGHT HAVE TO BATTLE WITH A FEW TIMELY SHOWERS, MAYBE A THUNDERSTORM AFTER TWO, THREE, 4 PM. BUT IT’S GOING TO BE A HOT DAY. YOU’LL WANT TO DRINK A LOT. AND AGAIN, THOSE HEAT INDEX VALUES ARE WELL ABOVE 35 DEGREES, POSSIBLY 38 DEGREES. SAME STORY FOR THURSDAY, FRIDAY, LOW 35 DEGREES IN THE FORECAST REPORTS
