Man (37) from Harare sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping his biological daughter (18)

A 37-year-old man from Harare has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Harare Magistrates Court for raping his 18-year-old daughter.

The State has proven that on March 2, 2024, the defendant picked up the plaintiff from Epworth, where she was staying with his sister.

As they approached Athlone Park, the defendant fondled the plaintiff’s breasts and invited her to have sexual intercourse with him.

The plaintiff refused, reminding him that he was her biological father. The defendant took the plaintiff to the ground, ripped off her pants and panties before raping her.

The incident was reported to the police, which led to the arrest of the accused.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

In another case, a 32-year-old man appeared before the Mutare Magistrate’s Court on a charge of rape. The plaintiff is his 12-year-old stepdaughter.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on 18 May 2024, the plaintiff and her three siblings, aged 7, 5 and 3, were left in the care of the defendant when their mother went to work.

The defendant told the plaintiff that he wanted to pray for her because she was not going to school.

He took the plaintiff into the bush where he raped her once. After the act, he told the plaintiff that the ritual was over and they returned home.

The plaintiff was seen crying by her brother. When questioned, the plaintiff told her brother that the defendant had raped her because he had allegedly prayed for her.

The defendant was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
