Man holds his roommate’s upper body, is shot and killed by police

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WJW) – A Florida man was shot and killed by police Sunday after he was found climbing out of a window with a knife and a dismembered body in his hand.


According to a Fort Myers Police Department news release, officers responded to the area of ​​Grand Avenue and Waltman Street shortly after 11:30 p.m. after receiving reports that a woman and two small children were hiding in a carport.

When officers arrived at the scene, the woman said her husband, later identified as 33-year-old Willy Lumaine, was in the process of “killing” her roommate, the news release said.

Officers then discovered an open door and a trail of blood at the front of the house, the press release said.

Officers then set up a security perimeter around the house and began giving verbal commands to Lumaine in an attempt to locate him and the possible victims.

Eventually, Lumaine went to a rear window and began smashing it with a large knife, the press release said.

Lumaine climbed out the window while holding the knife and what “appeared to be a severed body part,” ignoring police requests to drop the knife.

Lumaine was on his way to the officers when he was shot by police, the press release said.

“During the course of the investigation it became clear that a violent attack had taken place in the apartment,” the press release states.

According to the press release, the victim’s “mutilated and dismembered body” was found both inside and outside the home.

The investigation into this murder and the police shooting is still ongoing.
