Fayette County District Attorney Michael Aubele said Joshua Stevens, 33, of Uniontown was shot around 2 p.m.

“As far as we know, the victim attacked the defendant with a knife and apparently the defendant shot him and then fled the scene,” Aubele said.

Uniontown police are searching for the shooter.

Joshua Stevens’ father told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4: “I hope justice is served for my son’s death.”

Later, another shooting occurred at the corner of Liberty and Varndell Streets, not far from the scene of the first incident.

Aubele said police were still on Dunlap Street when they heard the gunshots at the second crime scene and headed there. He said a car riddled with bullet holes with two victims inside then stopped near Carlisle Street and Searight Avenue.

“A member of the Uniontown Police Department stopped the vehicle. I was one of the first on the scene. We assisted the people in that vehicle,” Aubele said.

Aubele said both victims were men in their late teens to early 20s. One was shot in the hip and the other was injured by shrapnel. Both victims were taken to hospital.

“They pulled her out of the car and laid her on the ground, and then, not even a minute later, the ambulance was there,” said neighbor Vanessa Osler.

State police took over this second investigation while Uniontown police continue to investigate the first.

The circumstances that led to the shooting were unimportant, Osler told her.

“I didn’t care what it was about. People were shot. That’s the point. It’s about lives in turmoil and lives lost,” Osler said.

Investigators are not yet sure whether there is a connection between the shootings.
