3 men arrested for coordinating street racing in Atlanta, more arrests expected

The Atlanta Police Department said it arrested three men in connection with street racing incidents that officials said they coordinated.

Police said officers assigned to the Atlanta Police Department’s Motor Crimes Unit responded to several calls from street racers across Atlanta throughout the weekend.

Chief Darin Schierbaum said the department arrested Treyon Izell Hamilton-Coleman, 24, of Riverdale, Jaquez Antonio Smith, 22, of Locust Grove, and Tyrik Ponder, 20, of Hampton, for promoting or organizing a street racing.

Police said an individual, Montrez Nasir Carter of McDonough, fled the scene and a warrant was issued for his arrest for also promoting or organizing a street race.

“If you plan to promote or organize street racing in the city of Atlanta, we will locate you, identify you and put you in jail,” said Chief Schierbaum.
