Two 16-year-old boys were arrested Thursday night and booked into the Thurston County Juvenile Detention Center after a gas station clerk was robbed at gunpoint near the Capital Mall in Olympia.

Olympia police spokesman Lt. Paul Lower said the incident was reported in the 900 block of Black Lake Boulevard Southwest around 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 6. A store employee called 911 and reported he had been robbed at gunpoint by two men.

Lower said two suspects entered the store and stole two boxes of cigars. The clerk confronted the suspects outside the store and ordered them to return the cigars. One of the suspects then pointed a gun at the clerk’s face and threatened to shoot him. The other suspect then punched the clerk in the face, causing his lip to bleed.

The suspects fled on foot but were later found in the mall parking lot. Lower said one of the suspects resisted arrest when officers found the handgun. The suspect attempted to take the gun from officers despite being handcuffed and was placed in a restraint device.

The two were charged with suspicion of first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and possession of a stolen firearm.
