Viral Michigan man with revoked driver’s license says it was a typo

Last week, a Michigan man made headlines for appearing in court virtually by car, the only reason being that he was appearing in court for a suspended driver’s license.

Judge Cedric Simpson, known for his zero-tolerance attitude, said 44-year-old Corey Harris must turn himself in or there will be a warrant for his arrest. Harris complied and was later released on bail, but it turns out Harris thought the matter of his driving license suspension would be over in 2022.

“The ban should have been lifted two years ago, but it didn’t happen,” Harris told ABC 7 in Detroit.

In a report from WXYZ-TV in Detroit, Harris claims his driver’s license remained suspended due to a clerical error when a judge lifted the suspension of his license on Jan. 7, 2022, and he was certainly right. The ABC affiliate reports that he only regained his license after previous issues with paying child support.

But this information never reached the US Secretary of State’s office and Harris’ license remains “suspended”.

“Given the nature of my ties to the church and the community, this is very embarrassing,” Harris added.

According to WXYZ-TV, Harris spent two days in jail and plans to contact the Secretary of State’s office to try to resolve the matter.
