‘Depraved’ Shaw rapist jailed – Saddleworth Independent

A “DAMN” Shaw rapist has been sentenced to eight years in prison for alleged “heinous sex crimes” including making videos of himself assaulting a sleeping woman.

Luke Charlton pleaded guilty to three charges at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester on Wednesday 29 May.

His victim, who was taking medication for an autoimmune disease, contacted Greater Manchester Police (GMP) about a video they discovered on his phone which apparently showed him forcing her to perform sexual acts on him while she slept.

She could not remember this ever happening, and although Mr Charlton claimed it only happened once, forensic experts were able to prove this was a lie.

Several videos were discovered on his phone showing repeated oral rape of the victim while she was sleeping.

Seeing 27-year-old Charlton, of Chancery Lane, jailed for his crimes, which were first uncovered in November 2022, GMP paid tribute to their victim’s bravery.

Detective Sergeant Kate Dawson, of Oldham CID, said: “The acts committed by Mr Charlton here are nothing short of depraved.”

“He abused the victim’s trust in him and the fact that she was taking powerful medication for an incurable autoimmune disease, which made it difficult for her to wake up during these incidents.

“The victim was incredibly brave.

“What she went through should never happen to anyone and the fact that she has remained so strong throughout the investigation and trial should be recognised.

“The accused made no comment under questioning and did not admit what he had done. Unfortunately for him, a dogged team of investigators and staff were determined to leave no stone unturned in this investigation to obtain justice for the victim.

“I know how difficult it can be to be a victim of sexual assault, but the police, GM (Greater Manchester) Victim Services and other external agencies and charities offer support to guide you through the process. I would encourage anyone who has experienced something similar to this to get in touch so we can investigate the case.”
