Licking man arrested for assault





Lick, MO. – After investigating an assault on May 27, 2024, the Texas County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Licking man for assault.

Texas County Officers were dispatched to a residence on N Highway in the Licking area after receiving a report of an assault. When they arrived at the scene, they spoke with a witness who stated there was a large commotion inside the home. The witness also stated that the victim came out of the home and told him that Roger Counts attacked him for no reason. Officers made contact with Counts, who told the officer that his dogs had been fighting inside the home and the victim grabbed one of the dogs and began choking him. He then said that he put the victim in a chokehold and told him that he would let go if he let go of the dog. The officer spoke with the victim, who told them that Counts punched him in the stomach and put him in a chokehold.

When Texas County officials attempted to arrest Counts, he refused. He then attacked the officer and punched a witness in the nose, drawing blood.

Roger Counts was charged with second-degree domestic violence, third-degree assault and resisting and evading arrest. He is being held on $5,000 bail.
