BPD Community Alert – Beware of Contaminated Drinks – Report All Incidents

BPD Community Warning: Boston Police would like to remind the public of the dangers of slipping odorless, colorless, and tasteless drugs such as Rohypnol, also known as Roofie, into the drinks of unsuspecting victims. Other drugs commonly used in a similar manner include GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid) or ketamine. These drugs and substances can cause disorientation, confusion, temporary paralysis, or unconsciousness, among a number of other symptoms, leaving the potential victim at the mercy of the suspect’s intentions.

While borderline personality disorder encourages everyone to look out for each other in social situations by creating a “buddy system” to avoid separations, there are steps you can take to ensure your own personal safety:

-Make sure your drink is served directly by the bartender or waiter. Do not allow people you do not know or trust to order drinks and bring them to you.

– Always keep an eye on your drink. Never leave your drink unattended.

– Take your drink with you to the toilet if necessary.

– Keep your hand over your drink when you are not looking at it. There are many creative inventions that can be used to cover your drink.

-Test your drink with test strips or nail polish that light up a certain color when they detect drugs.

– Get help right away if you feel dizzy, nauseous, lightheaded, or strange in any way.

– Please pay attention to unusual behavior among your acquaintances and be cautious when strangers try to lure people away from their friends.

– If you also notice a person who appears to be in distress, wandering alone late at night, or dressed inappropriately for the weather, contact the police immediately.
