Runners flood downtown streets for Buffalo Marathon 5K

BUFFALO, N.Y. — First there were the fireworks and welcome party Friday night, kicking off the Buffalo Marathon weekend.

Then came the 5K Saturday morning, when more than 1,100 people ran through the streets of downtown Buffalo.

Brendan Wagler of Rochester was the first person to cross the finish line, covering 3.1 miles in 16 minutes, 58 seconds. He was followed by Matt Dipretore (5:05 p.m.) of Newtown Square, Pa., and Sullivan Cook (5:21 p.m.) of Hamburg.

The first woman to complete the course was Jaimee Walling of Boston, who finished in 19:02. She was followed by Syd Steger (19:25) of Lake Placid and CC Tellez (20:17) of Cochabamba, Bolivia.
