A five-month-old baby who was seriously injured in a “neglect incident” at a theme park has died in hospital, police said.

The boy was taken to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest at Legoland Windsor on Thursday and died on Monday.

A 27-year-old woman from Witham, Essex, has been arrested on suspicion of neglect of a child with intent to cause unnecessary injury. She was released on bail until July 26.

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the queue to travel to Coastguard headquarters between 11:30am BST and 12:45pm on Thursday.

Det Con Zoe Eele, from Thames Valley Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “Firstly our thoughts are with the family of the boy who sadly died in hospital following a cardiac arrest. We support them as best we can in this difficult time.

“We have made an arrest in connection with this incident and are not looking for anyone else as a suspect.”

“I would ask the public to avoid speculation about the incident and to respect the boy’s family at this deeply troubling time.”

A spokesperson for Legoland Windsor said staff were “incredibly saddened by this news and our deepest condolences go out to all those affected” and that they would assist police with their investigation.

On Sunday, a park spokesman said its first aid team “provided immediate care until emergency services arrived.”

They said the baby was taken from the park by ambulance for further treatment.

“We would like to thank the emergency services for their quick response and our guests for their cooperation,” they added.
