Officer who arrested Scottie Scheffler was disciplined for bodycam

The officer who arrested golfer Scottie Scheffler last week near the PGA Championship venue failed to activate his body camera, violating regulations, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and Louisville Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said at a news conference in Louisville on Thursday.

The announcement followed an internal investigation into the May 17 arrest of the world’s top golfer outside Valhalla Golf Club that uncovered “policy violations” by Detective Bryan Gillis during the chaotic traffic accident that followed an unrelated death. Video footage of the arrest from a pole-mounted camera at the scene and from a dashboard camera in a police car were released, but the mayor said his office and police were “not aware of any video footage” of the initial confrontation, which he said was a “series “very unfortunate events in darkness, rain and tense conditions” followed.
