Kent State is opening a new police academy in Twinsburg this fall

Kent State University hopes to address the shortage of police officers by expanding its police academy to Twinsburg this fall.

Designated as a STAR Academy by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Kent State’s Basic Peace Officer Training Academy provides basic training at the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy as well as other methods for a career as a police officer or correctional officer.

“This is a great time to expand our training opportunities in Northeast Ohio,” said Jim Willock, director of the Kent State Police Academy. “Due to the urgent need, departments are doing everything they can to fill positions. When I started in the 1990s, the career opportunities, pay and incentives offered to cadets today were unknown.”
