Cornell Lewis Evans of Warren, Ohio, was arrested for aggravated assault after attempting to set a woman on fire

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Warren man was arrested Sunday on aggravated assault charges after he tried to set a woman on fire during an argument, police said.

Cornell Lewis Evans, of Warren, was charged with aggravated assault after officers were called to a home on Mazda Avenue late Sunday night for a domestic dispute, a report said.

The woman whose home police were called told officers she was trying to fix a broken back door and asked Evans to help her. The woman said Evans became angry, grabbed a bottle of lighter fluid, doused it and tried to set it on fire, the report said. After the altercation, the woman said she locked Evans in the bedroom while she waited for police to arrive.

When officers arrived at the scene, officers discovered the woman’s shirt was wet and smelled of lighter fluid.

Police arrested Evans at his home and took him to the Trumbull County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court this Thursday.
