Man charged with murder after incident in Newport

A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder after a 36-year-old was found with serious injuries on a city street.

Lee Crewe, 36, died after being found unresponsive on Chepstow Road in Newport on Tuesday.

The man accused of killing him has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Mr Crewe’s family described him as “lovable inside and out” in a tribute.

They receive support from specialists.

“Our thoughts are with Lee Crewe’s family and friends at this time,” said Det Ch Insp Virginia Davies of Gwent Police.

“As part of our investigation, we would like to speak to anyone who has information or details that could assist our investigation, particularly if you have not spoken to us before.”

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with Mr Crewe’s death.
