Taeyoung Kim, a Northbrook man charged in a Glenview crash that killed Marko Niketic of Glenbrook South High School, is scheduled to appear in court

CHICAGO (WLS) – A Northbrook man has been charged in connection with the devastating Glenview car crash that killed 17-year-old Marko Niketic and injured two others on Sunday.

Taeyoung Kim, 21, is charged with two counts: aggravated driving under the influence causing death, reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving, speeding, driving without lights, improper lane use and failure to drive Reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to Glenview police.

He is scheduled to appear in Cook County Court in Chicago at 12:30 p.m. Saturday

The two-car accident happened just after 11 p.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of East Lake Avenue. Niketic was driving a Mercedes that was struck by a speeding Mustang, police said. The impact of the crash almost ripped Niketic’s car in half, with the entire trunk ripped away. The rear of the car ended up in a neighbor’s yard.

Niketic was pronounced dead at the scene. The two passengers in the cars both sustained life-threatening injuries.

Kim, the driver of the Mustang, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Residents of the quiet neighborhood said the crash sounded like an explosion.

Niketic was buried on Thursday. He was a senior at Glenbrook South High School with prom just days away and graduation just a few weeks away.

Since the accident, police have not released any information about the condition of the injured passengers.
