A plane crash in Lee County kills two people

First responders found a single-engine plane 12 miles southeast of the Marianna city limits and found two people dead inside – a 72-year-old and a 73-year-old.

MARIANNA, Ark. – A man and a woman are dead after a plane crashed in Lee County on Sunday evening, according to Arkansas State Police (ASP).

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible plane crash at approximately 9:00 p.m. on May 12, 2024. Later around 9:30 p.m., first responders discovered that a single-engine plane had crashed 12 miles southeast of the Marianna city limits and found two people – a 72-year-old and a 73-year-old – dead internally.

According to ASP, witnesses said a private plane had flown from Florida to Batesville Airport, and around 8 p.m., family members of the victims contacted West Helena police for help after not hearing from the man and woman.

The investigation has been turned over to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
