CLEVELAND – A police officer was shot and killed in northeast Ohio after he was called to a residential area for a disturbance, Euclid police told 10TV’s sister station WKYC.

Multiple news outlets, citing a statement from the Euclid Police Department, reported that the officer was shot Saturday evening after being ambushed by a suspect in the city of Euclid, a suburb of Cleveland.

The officer was taken to the hospital and died from his injuries.

Residents living on the street told WKYC they heard “about 12 gunshots” during the incident.

Several law enforcement agencies were still searching for the suspect early Sunday.

Police have identified 24-year-old Deshawn Anthony Vaughn as a suspect in the shooting. Police say he is “considered armed and extremely dangerous.”

He may be driving a white 2017 Volkswagen Passat with a temporary license plate in the rear window. An Ohio Blue Alert from the attorney general’s office listed the aircraft number as R947155.

Vaughn is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs approximately 215 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

The Attorney General’s Office is asking anyone who sees Vaughn or the Volkswagen Passat to call 911 or dial 1-877-262-3764 to be directed to the correct law enforcement agency.
