According to a BCCI press release on Saturday afternoon, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been suspended for one match by the IPL governing body. This means Pant, an important cog in DC’s machine if they want to keep their IPL playoffs ambitions alive, will miss the team’s next game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday. DC are currently placed fifth in the IPL table with 12 points from as many games.

Pant was suspended for one match for violating the IPL code of conduct after his team posted a slow over rate in the 56th match of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Rajasthan Royals. He was also fined Rs 30 lakh.

“Mr Rishabh Pant, captain of Delhi Capitals, has been fined and suspended for one match for violating the IPL Code of Conduct after his team recorded a slow over rate in the 56th match of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Rajasthan Royals performed at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 7, 2024,” the press release said.

“As it was his team’s third offense of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct regarding minimum overage violations, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lac and suspended for one match. The remaining members of the playing eleven, including the impact players, were each individually fined either INR 12 Lac or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is less.

“In accordance with Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Delhi Capitals have appealed against the decision of the match referee. The appeal was then forwarded to the BCCI Ombudsman for consideration. The Ombudsman held a virtual hearing and confirmed that the match referee’s decision remains final and binding.”

Earlier, on April 4, Pant was fined Rs 24 lakh for a second excessive offense in the 16th match of the 17th IPL season against Kolkata Knight Riders in Vizag. Earlier, in a match against Chennai Super Kings at the same venue, DC maintained a slow over rate and Pant was fined Rs 12 lakh.
