Stockade Canyon Fire Incident Update, July 26, 2024

The Stockade Canyon Fire, sparked by a lightning strike on July 23, 2024, is currently burning about 20 miles northwest of Gerlach, Nevada. The fire is being managed by the Bureau of Land Management, Winnemucca District.

The fire burns in bushes and wood.

The fire is currently fully contained with responders using approved tools in the Wilderness Study Area. The goals are to minimize area burned in primary and general sage grouse habitat, protect identified cultural and historic resources, and prevent the fire from spreading into adjacent jurisdictions and populated areas.

Currently, no road closures have been reported and no evacuations have been ordered.

Gusty winds, high temperatures and low humidity (10–15%) contribute to difficult fire conditions.

Crews are focusing on using direct and indirect tactics with aircraft support to contain the fire’s spread to the north and east. They are also working to reinforce the fire’s southern and western flanks to prevent further spread.
