An Australian woman is said to have been the victim of a gang rape before the start of the Olympic Games in Paris.

“This 25-year-old woman sought refuge in a kebab shop just a few meters from the Moulin Rouge, according to several French media outlets,” Mullany said.

“She went in with her dress inside out, apparently torn.

“She told police she had been raped by five men. The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was given a medical examination.

“It is alleged that this happened over the weekend in the early hours of Saturday morning.”

Mullany added that the woman had planned to return to Australia but was now in Paris to assist police with their investigation.

“A number of officials are currently working on this investigation,” she said.

“We have sought further information from both DFAT and the Australian Federal Police, who have officers on the ground.

“But of course there are only a few days left until the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, so this is deeply disturbing news.”
