Prosecutor justifies investigations against soldiers in Nukhba case – Israeli politics

A committee meeting is scheduled to take place on Sunday to investigate soldiers for the killing of a Nukhba terrorist.

Prosecutor Amit Isman said: “I authorised the investigation after finding that the evidence was solid and that it was justified to open one. There is a reasonable suspicion; that is what we have been pursuing and that is what we will continue to pursue.”

Isman made the remarks in person to the committee after facing criticism from various quarters, including from Likud MP Amit Halevi, who expressed dismay at reading the phrase “murder of a Nukhba terrorist” in the police statement.

Halevi asked Isman: “By what criteria do you prosecute soldiers?” Isman replied: “We made this decision with a heavy heart and were fully aware of the consequences.”

“However, the evidence allowed for reasonable suspicion,” he continued.

Halevi puts Isman under pressure

Halevi repeated his question: “By what criteria do you pursue soldiers?” Isman repeated: “We made this decision with a heavy heart, aware of the consequences. Nevertheless, the evidence showed that there are sufficient suspects.”
