MSP: Man killed in car crash in Leroy Township

LEROY TOWNSHIP, Michigan (WOOD) – Authorities say a Battle Creek man died in a car crash Wednesday.

According to Michigan State Police, it happened around 1:40 p.m. in Leroy Township, at the intersection of M-66 and B Drive South.


According to police, a Lincoln SUV was traveling east on B Drive when it failed to stop at a traffic light, causing a collision with a pickup truck traveling south on M-66.

The driver of the Lincoln, a 71-year-old Battle Creek man, suffered fatal injuries, according to state police. They say he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the van, a 51-year-old East Leroy man, suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to MSP. Police said he appeared to have been wearing a seatbelt.

Investigators do not believe that alcohol or drugs were involved.

The road was closed for about 3.5 hours, but has now reopened.
