Another new fire, the Lone Rock Fire, burns 4,200 acres in Gilliam County; Level 2 evacuation alert issued

CONDON, Ore. (KTVZ) — Another new wildfire team was quickly deployed to approximately 4,200 acres in Gilliam County by Saturday evening, sending numerous air and ground forces to the scene to stop the fire. In addition, a Level 2 Evacuation Warning (BE SET) was declared for the community of Lone Rock.

At 7:40 p.m., Central Oregon Fire officials said the Lone Rock Fire was estimated to be 1,500 acres in size. That number was later increased to 4,200 acres. The fire is burning in grass and brush off Lone Rock Road east of Condon.

The Central Oregon Fire Management Service said Gilliam County, the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Central Oregon District and the BLM’s Prineville District responded with fire trucks, a fire engine, crews, a helicopter and three single-engine firefighting aircraft.

There is significant danger in your area. Be prepared to leave the area at any time.

• Move to a safe place outside the affected area. Inform your loved ones about your plans.

• Stay informed and alert. Check city and county websites, social media, television and radio for updates.

This may be the only notice you receive. Do not wait to evacuate if you feel unsafe. Conditions can change quickly. There is no need to wait for another evacuation notice. Make the best decision for your safety.
