35 Michigan State Police officers assist with security at the Republican National Convention

Michigan State Police are sending patrol officers to Milwaukee to provide security at the 2024 Republican National Convention.

The City of Milwaukee has requested assistance under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) and in response, MSP is deploying 35 police officers to assist with security and crowd control at the convention.

The officers will leave Michigan for Milwaukee on July 13 and work there for seven days. Captain Gregory Morenko, commander of the MSP’s Third District, will lead the group.

“We are ready to assist our colleagues in Milwaukee with this high-profile event,” said Col. James F. Grady II, director of MSP. “As state troopers, our members are trained in crowd management and on-site security to ensure a safe environment for everyone. We have planned our mobilization to leave sufficient personnel behind here in our state.”

Michigan joined EMAC in 2002. States can request assistance from other states through EMAC and are reimbursed for the cost of deploying resources.

According to Michigan State Police, Chicago did not file an EMAC request for prosecution at the Democratic National Convention.
