A DISTURBING SITUATION IN MATTAPAN. THREE DOGS FOUND DEAD IN A U-HAUL TRUCK. AND RIGHT NOW POLICE ARE TRYING TO FIND OUT WHO IS RESPONSIBLE. PETER ELIOPOULOS IS LIVE IN MATTAPAN AND HAS NEW INFORMATION TONIGHT. PETER. YES, JESSICA, WE’RE LEARNED FROM NEIGHBORS THAT THEY BELIEVE THE MAN WHO RENTED THE U-HAUL TRUCK LIVES RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER FROM HERE. AND POLICE DISCOVERED DOG FOOD IN THAT TRUCK AS WELL. BUT IT WAS ULTIMATELY THE HEAT THAT PROBABLY KILLED THE DOGS. RIGHT NOW THERE ARE THREE DOGS FOUND DEAD IN THIS U-HAUL TRUCK. NEIGHBORS SAY THE VAN WAS PARKED THERE FOR OVER A WEEK IN THE Blistering HEAT. WE SMELLED SOMETHING REALLY BAD, REALLY, REALLY BAD, LIKE A DEAD BODY. IVES JEFF LARSON LIVES ACROSS THE STREET FROM WHERE THE VAN WAS PARKED ON EDGEWATER DRIVE IN MATTAPAN. HIS DAUGHTER SAYS SHE SAW A MAN ON MONDAY TRYING TO GET A FIVE-GALLON JUG OF WATER FROM A NEARBY ON BREAK. IT WAS CAUGHT ON VIDEO. ANOTHER NEIGHBOR SAYS THE MAN TOLD HIM A DOG HAD HEAT STROKE. THEY HAD MANY GALLONS ON THE FLOOR AND THEY POURED WATER ON THE DOG AND THAT MAKES ME SUSPECTIVE, SHE SAYS. THE DOG WAS SHINING, BUT AT THIS POINT OTHER NEIGHBORS THINK THE OTHER TWO DOGS WERE DEAD. WHEN I, UM, LOOKED INSIDE THE VAN, I SAW A FLY IN THE VAN. MAYBE A THOUSAND FLIES. JEFF LARSON CALLED THE POLICE, WHO CAME AND DISCOVERED THE TRAGIC SCENE. ONE OF THE DOGS WAS ALSO DEAD IN A BOX. THIS MAKES ME SAD AND ANGRY BECAUSE IT’S NOT OKAY TO DO THINGS LIKE THIS. TO, UM, DOGS. AND THIS IS ANIMAL ABUSE. HE WAS TOWED AWAY WHILE THE POLICE WERE INVESTIGATING. THIS FAMILY HAS SO MANY QUESTIONS. LET THEM GO. LET THEM OUT AND PEOPLE CAN TAKE THEM WITH THEM, NOT PUT THEM RIGHT THERE ON A TRUCK. AND YOU KNOW, IT’S HOT AND THEY’LL DIE RIGHT THERE. NOW THEY’RE ANIMAL CONTROL, IT WAS MORE LIKE THREE PIT BULL MIXES THAT DIED. AND THIS U-HAUL WAS NOT REPORTED STOLEN BY THE WAY. SO, THE NEARBY NEIGHBORS HERE
