UEFA ban for Jude Bellingham « Euro Weekly News

Jude Bellingham was banned for one match and fined for his conduct following his goal against Slovakia.

However, England fans can breathe a sigh of relief as UEFA has decided to suspend the ban for a year, meaning he will still be able to play in the quarter-finals of the 2024 European Championship against Switzerland tomorrow night.

This means he will have to be on his best behaviour over the next 12 months, and any further behaviour that breaches the ‘basic rules of good behaviour’ will mean he will have to miss the next England game, no matter when or who it is against.

In a released statement, UEFA confirmed its decision to fine the Real Madrid player €30,000 and ban him from a total of one UEFA competition match in which he would otherwise be eligible to play.

Violation of basic rules of conduct

This measure was taken in response to Bellingham’s breach of the “basic rules of decent conduct”. However, they added: “The suspension will not be enforced immediately and will be subject to a probationary period of one year, starting from the date of this decision.”

Bellingham denies making an obscene gesture after his overhead kick in injury time. He shared a video of the gesture with X, saying: “An inside gesture to some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for the performance of the Slovakia team tonight.”
