Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing federal criminal charges in New York on several counts.

Three months after police officers raided Sean “Diddy” Combs’ homes in Los Angeles and Miami, the rapper and record executive is now officially under federal criminal investigation.

Accordingly NBC NewsAccording to a report citing two sources familiar with Combs’ legal situation, a grand jury in the Southern District of New York is hearing evidence as part of its investigation into the Bad Boy Records founder. Details about what exactly the grand jury is investigating have not been released.

According to the news agency, federal authorities informed Combs’ legal team last week that there was an ongoing criminal case against him, but said there was no indication that charges would be filed and that Combs had not received a letter directing him to contact the defendants.

A person is considered a target if prosecutors are likely to seek a grand jury indictment against the person, legal experts say (but the Southern District of New York is not required to do so). A person’s status can also be upgraded or downgraded as an investigation progresses.

Combs has been accused of sexual assault and sex trafficking by several women over the past seven months, and in March his properties in Los Angeles and Miami were raided by police.

In May, CNN obtained security surveillance footage from a Los Angeles hotel showing Combs physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, in 2016. Combs settled a federal case with Ventura last November.

After the surveillance footage was released, Combs, who had initially denied Ventura’s allegations, posted an apology video on Instagram.

“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in life, but sometimes you have to,” Combs said in the video. “I was devastated… I mean, I hit rock bottom – but I’m not making any excuses… I take full responsibility.”

Since the allegations came to light, Hulu has canceled a planned reality series about Combs and his seven children, and Howard University has stripped the producer of his award.
