Chicago man arrested after attempted car theft and burglary in Little Italy

A man has been charged after committing a car theft and a failed break-in at his apartment within minutes of each other in Chicago’s Little Italy neighborhood on Monday.

Police say Jonathan Morris, 38, attempted to steal a disabled 62-year-old woman’s car in the 1100 block of South Laflin Street around 2 p.m. Minutes later, Morris attempted to break into a home on the same block.

Morris, of the Lawndale neighborhood, was arrested about 90 minutes later. He was charged with attempted grand theft auto from a disabled person, trespassing and aggravated assault on a victim over the age of 60 – all felonies.

A detention hearing for Morris is scheduled for Wednesday. No further information was released.
