1 dead in murder in south Austin on Monday

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin police are investigating a homicide that occurred Monday night in south Austin that left one person dead.

The investigation took place in the 6700 block of Windrift Way, north of West William Cannon Drive, approximately three blocks west of South First Street.


Sergeant Lee Knouse of the APD’s public information office said the first “shooting/stabbing call” came in at 5:39 p.m. The caller said someone with “penetrating trauma” needed medical attention.

Police, fire department and emergency services arrived at the scene, but despite life-saving measures, one person was pronounced dead, according to Knouse.

According to Knouse, the APD homicide unit is questioning a suspect and witnesses.

He said they were confident there was no danger to the public.
