Lineups USA vs. Uruguay: Yunus Musah starts for the suspended Tim Weah, Matt Turner returns

KANSAS CITY, Missouri — U.S. national team goalkeeper Matt Turner will play in the decisive Copa America Group match against Uruguay.

Gio Reyna will start on the right wing, replacing the suspended Tim Weah, while Yunus Musah will play in central midfield.

Meanwhile, Uruguay’s lineup remained unchanged from Thursday’s 5-0 win over Bolivia – and that’s exactly what USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter expected.

“My assessment is that they will be playing against their strongest team,” Berhalter told reporters on Sunday. “I think you go into this tournament wanting to go through and perform as best as you can and your work is not done yet. So I expect they will be playing against their strongest team.”

Turner injured his leg in a violent collision in the opening minutes of the Americans’ 2-1 loss to Panama. He was replaced at halftime by substitute Ethan Horvath, although there was still hope that he would be available for Monday’s decisive match against This is the Celeste. Berhalter said Turner was “limited in training” on Saturday and Sunday and that staff will “continue to monitor” him.

Uruguay currently sits atop Group C with six points, while the USMNT sits second with three points and is just ahead of Panama on goal difference (+2 in favor of the USA). The Americans can advance to the quarterfinals with a win, loss or draw, depending on what happens in the Panama-Bolivia match taking place at the same time.
