Man found dead in McDowell County woods

MCDOWELL COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – An investigation is ongoing after a man was found dead in the woods in McDowell County.

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check in the wooded area on North Fork River Drive around 5 p.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed that the person was dead at the scene. The coroner’s office has not yet released the victim’s identity.

The cause of death is currently under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
