Deputies: 1 dead and 4 injured in accident in Allegan County

FILLMORE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – The driver of a vehicle has died and four passengers, including three children, were taken to the hospital following a crash near Saugatuck.

At about 1 p.m. Sunday, a sedan traveling west on 136th Avenue failed to stop at a stop sign at 58th Street in Fillmore Township, according to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office. It was struck by a pickup truck traveling north on 58th Street.

The pickup truck had the right of way, officers said, because there is no stop sign on 58th Street.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. The other four passengers, including three children, were taken to hospitals with serious and life-threatening injuries, officials said.

According to officials, the driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

The road was closed after the accident but has since reopened. The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.
