Police investigate shooting and related accident on Friday afternoon

ITHACA, NY — A series of shootings and a car crash Friday afternoon in the city of Ithaca are related, police said late Friday. One injury was reported, but it did not appear to be serious.

An Ithaca Police press release reported two separate reports of shootings that occurred about 20 minutes apart Friday afternoon, one in the 400 block of Adams Street and one in the 100 block of West Village Place.

Although there were no injuries in connection with the shootings, Lt. Thomas Condzella said police found evidence of gunfire at both crime scenes, including empty cartridge cases and evidence of bullet holes.

Condzella said the two incidents were related and occurred between people who knew each other. That was also the case with a car crash that occurred late in the day around 4 p.m. in the 300 block of Third Street. Condzella claimed the driver of one car intentionally drove into another vehicle.

Condzella told The Voice of Ithaca No one was injured in the accident, but one person suffered a head injury during an argument that followed the accident. That person was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery, Condzella said.

Condzella also said that no arrests had been made as of Friday evening as the investigation was still ongoing, but criminal charges were pending in connection with the situation.

The police are asking anyone with information to contact them. They can remain anonymous.
